School Leaver Krissy finds Employment, thanks to ON-Q

School Leaver Krissy finds Employment, thanks to ON-Q

When Krissy recently left school her major goal was to find work. Her path was not an easy one though, being diagnosed with autism and a significant language impairment.

Despite this, Krissy lives quite independently with her mother and her twin sister and at her young age, already has her drivers’ license.

Krissy really wanted paid employment and took part in the School Leaver Employment Support program through ON-Q. The program assists young school leavers with a disability to successfully transition to work or further training.

Having undertaken prior work experience with Coles, ON-Q initiated the process of exploring some paid shift opportunities with them. The great news is Coles in Ormeau were looking for someone like Krissy and she was successful in gaining three shifts a week in their store.

On her first shift on Monday 2nd March, with great enthusiasm, Krissy popped on her name badge, her much loved Coles uniform and commenced her employment.

Her team at Coles could not be happier either as Krissy shows incredible work ethics, always arriving for her shift half an hour early, dressed immaculately and ready to put 100% into her duties, which include grocery packaging and stock movement on the floor.

“Supporting clients into work is what makes our job so rewarding. We really want to thank Coles for their support of Krissy and we hope her story will encourage other businesses to give a person with a disability a go, not just to increase diversity in their business but to experience the gratitude and incredible work ethic they possess”, CEO for ON-Q, Jason Shield stated.

In these unprecedented and uncertain times, one thing does remain certain – with the drive, focus and commitment that Krissy possesses, anything can be achieved!
